January 1, 2016

As midnight struck on the east coast of the United States, Ari and I shared the secret fiesta handshake and began mapping out our 2016 fiesta, which will be our thirteenth together. Annually, on January 1, the countdown to return to Spain officially starts, as outlined by Pamplona’s famous song Escalera, or “Staircase.” We fielded emails and telephone calls from friends sharing the same experience all over the world.

It also marked the end of the sixth month since Bulls Before Breakfast was published, and it has been a time more enjoyable than I could have ever imagined. Thanks to everyone that has supported me in 2015 on this long strange endeavor, and I look forward to continued fun this year.

Our plan is to spend a week in Marsaille before fiesta, which was an idea that came to us, candidly, after ANTHONY BOURDAIN PARTS UNKNOWN in October 2015.

We will be having the bouillabaisse more than once.
